Letter from Europe

Dear Carol,

I talked to an American waiter in downtown Oslo today. He did not vote
in the Presidential elections, and as I choked on my chocolate cake, he
calmly told me he DOES NOT CARE, and has not voted since he was 18
(presumably then he did ? -- the mind boggles: A case of "Tried it
once, didn't like it?")

It is my RIGHT! he said.
End of conversation.

I saw from his whole body language that he had been hassled BEYOND
BELIEF about it by Norwegian Kerry suppporters. So I simply said
nothing.
A feat for me, huh?
I wanted to say, But don't you care about US, the rest of the world?
