Habitué, or A Mate's Song
I love to watch daylight return to the ocean
On my early-morn walk on the dock.
The salt-air's a tonic, a magical potion!
I love to watch daylight return to the ocean:
The quiet around me swings into motion,
The seabirds awake from their sleep on the rock.
I love to watch daylight return to the ocean
On my early-morn walk on the dock.
I wrote this for my son, Joe. It's a triolet. A triolet is a one stanza poem of eight lines. Its rhyme scheme is ABaAabAB and often all lines are in an iambic meter: the first, fourth and seventh lines are identical, as are the second and final lines, thereby making the initial and final couplets identical as well.
A Carol poem! Oh my! This is a pearl. Gave me shivers. Thank you.
