Amaze
by Adelaide Crapsey
I know
Not these my hands
And yet I think there was
A woman like me once had hands
Like these.
The Academy of American Poets sends a Poem-A-Day to my inbox. I just love getting them.
This little cinquain by the inventor of the form expresses exactly how I feel about my own hands...how I see my mother's in mine. It leads to contemplation of our selves, how much genetics determines our personalities, and so on. And wasn't Adelaide clever with the title--A maze!
